It’s the first day of 2016. The fireworks were lit, the feast gobbled up, and the drinks chugged down.
Did you also remember to fill your pockets with bills and coins when the clock struck twelve? Did you have the mandatory twelve fruits on the table? Did you open all the windows and doors? Did you fill the salt shaker and sugar jar? Did you – heaven forbid – wear polka-dotted clothes?
Aren’t all these New Year Filipino superstitions great? Having traditions like ours somehow weaves a bit of magic to an otherwise mundane event. Without them, New Year would just be another excuse for a night of eating, drinking, and merry-making.
But we do certain rituals – silly as they may seem – because we believe that in doing so, something wonderful may happen. Love, wealth, stronger family ties, more friendships – the dream varies with each person. Yet one thing remains constant – the dream for life to get better.
We all know that it takes only a little bit of luck and a lot of hard work, talent, and patience for dreams to come true. But with superstitions and traditions, we take solace in that one teeny-weeny ray of hope that Lady Luck will finally smile on us and make the struggles a lit bit shorter, a little bit easier. I know I do – silly ol’ me.
But that was last night and we’re now back to reality. I still yearn for a bit of magic in my life every now and then, something to inspire me to keep on going. And since I’m not one to whine, I’ve created two notepads that will inspire me throughout the year.
It’s funny, I’ve designed several notepads and have sold a few to friends and relatives but I’ve never actually made one for myself. While I was designing one for myself, I decided to make a simple one, devoid of the usual borders and cute graphics. I started with one but had another idea for another design. And voila, here they are.
I was so happy with the results that I’ve decided these will be the very first designs of my Verses & Quotes Collection. I will be coming up with more designs that will feature Bible verses and other inspirational quotes. So watch out for them! However, if you already have a favorite verse or quote and want it printed out on a notepad for daily inspiration, feel free to send me a message in my Facebook account. I’ll make sure to give your verse or quote the beauty it deserves.
